Hello Basketball Fans, it has been an interesting few months for the game of basketball around the world… NBA is still in the lockout and keeping its players busy discovering other employment options around the globe. The funny thing about the lockout to me is that not so much negotiating was done over the summer months – it was, in fact, very quiet in terms of interactions among owners and NBPA.
However, come October, we are seeing 16-hour negotiating sessions in NY. And it makes me say “Hello people! Didn’t you know the lockout will not evaporate by itself, why all this hard nose talk didn’t occur back in August, so the fans would have the full season to enjoy and the players would not be second-guessing themselves and flirting with overseas opportunities”. Well, I guess, summertime was too nice to let go – I understand – who doesn’t like the sunshine…
The bottom line, the whole situation reminds me of a student who was postponing and procrastinating for so long that he decided not to sleep for a week so he could get ready for the final exams… Unfortunately, as we all experienced in college, the outcome of such work is usually average, if the luck is on your side.
Hopefully, the players and the owners will get a bit of luck these days and draft a nice and smooth Collective Bargaining Agreement that will safe the NBA season, fans, and bring an end to the “suffering” of some NBA players in European Leagues – It’s time to go home, Baby!!!
